The United Kingdom of Clown World

Definition: ‘Clown World’ – A description of a real world circumstance that is so insane, illogical and utterly unbelievable that any sane person must come to the conclusion that the world we inhabit is some sort of funhouse, wacky mirror mental institution run by clowns. Source Urban Dictionary

I am a Briton and I live in Clown World. Sadly there’s no other words that I can find to accurately describe what Britain has become other than it looks and feels like a nation run by clowns. Unfortunately the clowns that are in charge are not just incompetent or stupid or not up to their jobs, but are actively and demonstrably malevolent. These clowns, as many Britons will already know, have all but completely eviscerated freedom of speech, a freedom that many Britons fought hard to create and preserve. In place of that socially necessary freedom of speech that many of us took for granted in the past, are the capricious and unjust ‘hate speech’ laws that too often privilege one group over another and which are eagerly enforced by the police and other social agencies.

Britain has become the land of the ‘Jokestapo’ where the police and the prosecuting authorities will pull out all the stops to punish those Britons who make jokes about Islam or criticising it or asking questions about the cult of transgenderism or even teach a pug dog to give a right paw salute. In less than a century Britain has gone from a place where the statement ‘it’s a free country isn’t it’ was both a way of asserting a person’s right to speak freely and also a reminder to the listener that Britons were free, to something very different. Britain is now a nation where people feel they have to look over their shoulders when, for example, talking to friends in the pub about certain subjects. After all you wouldn’t want any criticisms of Islam or ‘refugees’ or immigration or members of the trans-cult to be reported to the police would you?

In Britain people are arrested and sometimes charged, convicted and imprisoned for such ‘crimes’ as quoting song lyrics with offensive words in them as a tribute to a dead friend, mocking high profile Muslims and for stuff that is plainly satire. Now we have, in today’s latest examples of Clown World Britain, a man arrested for taking the piss out of a Muslim football player’s religion and a father and son gaming channel creators for playing an alternative history board game.

In the first instance, Gary Hyland a 32 year old Liverpool man was brought to the courts and pleaded guilty to sending Tweets that expressed his dislike of the football player Mo Salah. The Tweets mocked Mr Salah’s religion and he cracked jokes about Mr Salah praying to Mecca at half time and sent a meme of Mr Salah wearing a suicide bomb vest. Mr Hyland is awaiting sentence and will be sentenced on August 30th according to the report on this case from a Nigerian news source and which appears to be an agency story. It is likely, knowing how the British justice system works, that this man will be made an example of, in order to frighten more people away from the idea of making jokes about Islam and Muslims.

Do I like the jokes? No, not really, but Mr Hyland should have had the right to make them, even if some observer of the Twitter thread felt vicariously ‘offended’. These jokes are not even accurate as there is no suggestion that Mr Salah is any sort of extremist and he has even spoken up about the need to improve women’s rights in the Middle East. The comments made by Mr Hyland were a bit stupid and ill informed but they should not and should never be considered as a crime.

There is one notable feature of this case however that makes clear just how far Britain’s police forces are embedded up the collective rectums of Britain’s Islamic community. This incident happened at 03:40 BST on the 6th August 2019 and he appeared in court and was presumably pressured to plead guilty on the 9th August. This case went from an alleged offence being committed to disposal via sentencing in less than a month. That’s incredibly fast. It is also, as many may note, considerably swifter than the police behave when it comes to dealing with real crime and especially crime committed by Muslims. Britain’s police are tough on ‘Islamophobia’ and its expressions, even those in print, but all too lax when it comes to problems like Islamic Rape Gangs for example.

The next example of Clown World Britain comes from both the Samizdata blog and the YouTuber Vee. In this case the offending clowns are not from a police force in Britain but from the country’s increasingly Left-dominated education system. Apparently according to these sources there are a father and son team who run a gaming channel on You Tube. In some cases this involves the pair in donning costumes and having suitable accoutrements for the game displayed on the wall. This is no real biggy and many Britons enjoy board gaming and I have good friends who are involved in Live Action Role Play and who dress up as Orcs at the weekend and wallop each other with foam swords. Unfortunately the son had the misfortune to run into one of the ‘fascism hunters’ and socialist ideologues who infest Britain’s education system.

The gaming team were playing a game involving an alternative history scenario, one in which the former leader of the British Union of Fascists Oswald Mosley had become Prime Minister and Britain had been plunged into civil war. The son was playing the Mosleyite side and in order to give an ambiance to the games room he went in search of a replica British Union of Fascists flag. The pair, like many gamers, behave in character when reviewing games on their channel and made announcements in character in order to more fully immerse themselves and their viewers in the game. However it is only a game and everyone knows it, whether the players be wearing a medieval helmet or a Waffen SS uniform. The players are highly unlikely to be anything like their gaming characters in real life as any basic and routine enquiry into this pair would have discovered.

Unfortunately for the son, the school got wind of his purchasing a BUF ‘lighting flash’ flag and immediately went into total meltdown. Before it seems even speaking to the boy or his father the school called in the local police anti-terrorism unit. The police, on this occasion to their credit, immediately understood the situation and informed the school that this was just board games not real life. It’s the school and their overzealousness in their search for ‘far right’ extremism that needs to be heavily criticised here. The police saw sense but the school did not and not only put this father and son through such as stressful time that their channel went offline for six months but also wasted police resources that could have been better used elsewhere.

The school, in my opinion, let ideology and the counter-terror ‘PREVENT’ scheme trump common sense. Ideology and a professional culture that appears to prioritise a witch-hunt against alleged ‘far rightists’ was put ahead of the need to check the allegations of ‘extremism’, something that could have been quite easily done. It would have been the work of a few minutes to look at this person’s You Tube channel and ascertain that this father and son are gamers, not genocidal maniacs. Sadly the school didn’t bother to do this and immediately called in the police. The school failed to even do the most basic of research to find out the truth behind this story, they fell back on their ideology and handed the matter over to the police, something that must have been extremely traumatic for both the father and the son who were so unjustly accused of being ‘fascists’.

As a parent this second story horrifies me as I presume that the call to the police was made by whatever member of school staff is tasked with managing ‘Safeguarding’ under the various legal provisions for keeping children and vulnerable people safe from harm and out of the influence of extremists. This incident does not give me the greatest of confidence that these Safeguarding staff have either the intelligence to do this job properly or are too willing to behave in a knee-jerk way. I dread the future when it comes to Britain’s education system as it is increasingly becoming one where children are not taught how to think and to think critically, but who are told what to think. Any deviation from the approved narrative, whether that be on politics, religion or social matters is being clamped down on by teaching staff, who I feel would have been better suited to working in the old Communist German Democratic Republic.

It’s incredibly sad what has happened to the United Kingdom. It used to be a beacon of freedom, of justice and of learning. Now it is a clown world where drunken jokers are dragged before the courts and where board-gamers are unjustly smeared as fascists. As the old song goes, ‘send in the clowns, don’t bother they’re here’.

  1. In this clown world I don’t really blame them for their actions. Like Health and safety it is too much responsibility for the people at the coal face to make decisions. If they looked at it and made a call then they would have taken responsibility and if it had gone wrong then questions would be asked. Passing it up the ladder though is a nice easy way to pass the buck and make it someone else’s call.

I understand the H and S analogy but to me it looks more like ‘only following orders’. However the buckpassing attitude of which you speak is all too common in many areas of the public sector.

  2. Just read somewhere that a VW advert was banned in the UK as it briefly showed a woman taking care of a baby – 3 people complained about “harmful gender stereotypes” – enough to get the ad pulled. Clown world.
