Islamic child sexual exploitation – Not just a British problem

There’s an interesting news story that has come out of Canada recently about a Muslim man who has been charged with 54 offences against children including sexual assault, sexual activity with a child, unlawful imprisonment and sexual exploitation of a young person.

Here’s the report from the Canadian state broadcaster the CBC.

A Toronto man has been charged with numerous sex-related offences, police said Wednesday.

Mohammed Naufal Hadi Mohamed, 52, was arrested on Oct. 29 following an investigation, police said in a news release.

He faces a total of 54 charges, including 14 counts each of sexual assault and sexual exploitation of a young person; 12 counts of sexual interference with a person under 14; and two counts of forcible confinement.

The other charges include:

  • Six counts of corrupt child through sexual immorality.
  • Three counts of unlawfully engage in anal intercourse.
  • Three counts of invitation to sexual touching under 14 years of age.

He is scheduled to appear in court on Wednesday.

Police believe there are other victims and are asking anyone with more information to come forward.

I tend to agree with the Canadian poice in that there are likely to be other victims or complainants that are yet to come forward. What is interesting about this case is that the defendant seems to be being treated as a lone offender. I suppose that we shall have to wait until the trial to find out whether this man allegedly acted alone or whether, as is the case in the UK, whether he was working with other offenders, of a similar background to the defendant?

Whilst I readily concede that all groups of people can contain abusers, the nature of the charges that Mohamed is being faced with, make me wonder if this case is the tip of a very large and nasty iceberg. The sexual exploitation and forcible confinement charges are very reminscent of charges levelled at the Islamic Rape Gangs of Britain. They do suggest to me that Canada may not only have a problem with standalone imported sex offenders, but also possibly similar highly organised groups of abusers such as is found in the UK.
