Not the culture that you might be looking for.

A Petri dish containing a much more attractive culture than Bradford

I see that Bradford has been named ‘City of Culture’ and will carry that title in 2025. Whilst I acknowledge that the place does contain one of Britain’s premier photography museums and it has been in the past a place that has nurtured music in various styles from Punk to Middle of the Road pop, that’s not what it is known for now. Now it is known as a place that is dominated by Islamic interests and where you are likely to find more culture in a yoghurt bought from a local supermarket than you would in the city itself.

Bradford is not the first place that comes to mind when thinking of the word ‘culture’. The average man in the street is more likely to think of how Bradford is a centre for inbreeding due to Islamic cousin marriages being prevalent in the area. In recent years Bradford has become less known for its textile industry or cultural heritage and sadly much more well known for the phenomena of the publicly wanking Muslim man. Here’s just a few of the ‘delights’ of the culture that has been growing in the foetid petri dish that is Bradford.

Bradford has consistently ranked as one of the worst places to live in Britain with one survey taken by YouGov in 2018 found that only 23% of survey respondents had any good feeling for the place. In this survey Bradford came at the bottom of the league table of preferable towns or cities. Slightly more people (24%) preferred Wolverhampton which gives some idea as to what people think of Bradford.

I suspect that much of any funding for Bradford City of Culture will end up being wasted, spent inappropriately and leave no long lasting legacy for the city. What is most likely to happen is that much of the money will end up in the pockets of local worthies, trustafarian arts establishment types and those who are contracted to either build new arts venues or refurbish old ones. It’s not beyond the realms of possibility that some of the money might end up with the local Islamic community or representatives of it. I suspect that what Bradford will be left with after their year as City of Culture will some White Elephant venues that require continual propping up with public money and a bad taste in the mouth.

Bradford. City of Culture. Do me a favour. Whilst it does have a past as a cultural centre that’s not what its like now. Today there’s more culture in an athlete’s sweaty socks than in Bradford and its not a place that I would really and truly wish to pay out of my own pocket to visit.

Places like Bradford do not need wasteful, short term and possibly corrupt City of Culture programmes.  These places need their business confidence restored, their economies restored, to be run by honest and transparent administrations, for integration to be prioritised over multiculturalism; for crime to be tackled and hope brought back.   There is also the dire need to tackle the disproportionately powerful Islamic religious blocs that have far too much influence on how places like Bradford and on the civic services that are provided there, are run.  None of this can be done with worthless and ultimately empty fripperies like being named City of Culture.  The fact that this accolade has been awarded to Bradford, a place where a good many of us have good reasons to avoid, is a prime example of the vacuousness of these City of Culture schemes.  I predict that nobody will benefit from this City of Culture win apart from the sort of people who always appear to win from these sorts of things.  By the time that many local people realise they’ve been had by the empty promises made by City of Culture promoters those who’ve benefited along with the money that they’ve stashed, will be long gone.

  1. Sounds like Bradford is indeed the perfect candidate to be the British city of culture then. It seems to possess all the required attributes that our ridiculous modern woke culture demands.

  2. Yes, I got interested in Bradford, they have apparently turned one of their main city squares into a vast paddling pool! Really, Google it! No more political meetings there unless everyone in wellies?

Interesting, and also costly. Still doesn’t tempt me to want to visit Bradford though.
