Quote of the Day 1st May 2023. Ron DeSantis visits the UK.

The Governor of the US State of Florida Ron DeSantis has recently visited the United Kingdom and given an excellent and informative interview to the Daily Telegraph. In this interview he speaks of how his administration fought off vehement demands from the likes of Anthony Fauci to put the state into lockdown mode and by doing so came out better both medically and economically than some other States in the US. He also speaks about his belief in low tax economies that are dynamic and attract inward investment as well as the current state of US politics and his administration’s on going battle with a Disney Corporation that has become arrogant and dominated by leftism and identitarianism.

Mr DeSantis is known, both in the USA and the UK, as a warrior against the cult of ‘woke’. In one section of the interview he said this on the subject of the woke wankers that afflict all too much of the Anglosphere:

He’s correct, ‘woke’ in all its manifestations is an assault of truth. It’s also an assault of free speech, free thought and the freedom to discuss ideas and concepts. It’s notable that woke ideologies cannot survive free enquiry and an open examination of these ideologies and the policies that come from these ideologies. It’s why woke ideologies, such as those associated with the transgender movement, are vehemently hostile to freedom of speech or the right of those who disagree with them or who believe in empiricism to examine transgender belief systems.

I’ve long admired Mr DeSantis and although I was initially sceptical about whether his State’s Covid policies would work, however it is a policy that later evidence both from the USA and the UK has vindicated. The lockdowns did not do much to halt the spread of Covid as by the time it emerged as a problem the infection was already too widespread for containment policies to have any positive affect.

Mr DeSantis and his policies have put Florida in a better position than most US states to handle both the post covid economic problems and the fiscal problems that have been brought about by the Biden administration’s mishandling of both the economy and America’s energy sector. He’s done wonders for Florida and if, at some time in the future, he manages to fight for and win the Presidency, he might be able to do the same for the USA. Because of his obvious political astuteness if he managed to win he Presidency then he could be all that Donald Trump should have been, but could not, because of Mr Trump’s personality and unfamiliarity with the mechanics of government. As Florida Governor, Mr DeSantis has taken on some pretty big beasts in the form of massive woke dominated corporations, politically powerful and well connected teaching unions and a Federal medical and scientific Establishment that refused to see the flaws in their own policies.

Seeing Mr DeSantis makes me sometimes wish I could be a Floridian and vote for him but that’s not the case, as I’m British. But he also makes me crave the opportunity to vote for politicians in the United Kingdom who would stand up for Britain and its people just as fiercely as Mr DeSantis has stood up for his constituents.

Same here. He could not only be good for America being a right winger who doesn’t frighten the horses (unlike Mr Trump) but also for the West in general.
