Housekeeping notice about links

'I say Caruthers! It says here that Mr Fahrenheit might have to change his method of displaying links'

Some of the pieces that I write can sometimes have an enormous number of links to sources. This is because I was conditioned over many years of writing and media stuff to make sure that I properly reference sources. For years I’ve been able to embed links into the pieces and just copy the whole lot over onto my content management system without much of an issue. But as I’m publishing not just on fahrenheit211.net but also on the PeakD platform at https://peakd.com/@mrfahrenheit211 embedded links are becoming a bit of an issue. This is because the PeakD platform does not allow me to cut and paste entire articles with embedded links which means that every link on articles on that platform has to be manually and laboriously entered into the PeakD site individually. Whilst I’m exceedingly happy with PeakD’s anti-censorship mindset I find having to manually enter ten or more embedded links for each piece I publish is a bit of a pain in the arse to be quite frank.

Therefore I’m probably going to have to change how I handle links to outside sources. From here on in if the number of links in a piece exceeds more than one or two I’ll be placing all links at the bottom of each piece as a footnote academic style. Where there are many links in a longform piece I’ll be numbering the footnote in the body text to make it easier for readers to identify the correct link.

I hope that the tech people behind PeakD manage in the future to correct this issue and allow users to copy and paste articles with embedded links. This issue is I need to say but a minor blot on what is otherwise a wonderful PeakD platform landscape. As an aside as I’ve been on PeakD for over six months now I’m going to be doing a ‘how I’m finding it’ post on that subject very soon.

  1. Swings and roundabouts. They strip it out because most people are idiots and they paste in all sorts of things by accident. You may be careful but just look around most are not.

I do like the links at the appropriate place in the text as you do so my vote goes there although most articles have the references at the bottom, both on the web and in print.

I take it there is no HTML mode that you can paste into on the editor or via an editing facility.
