From Elsewhere: 54% of Britons have confidence in the police. I’m very surprised that the number is that high.

The German publication Die Zeit has published an article about two tier policing in the UK. There’s a lot that this article gets correct such as that there has not just been one or two incidents where timid and brainwashed state officials in Britain has put protecting themselves from possibly fake accusations of ‘racism’ ahead of public safety and justice, there’s been dozens.

Here’s what Die Zeit said:

The British confidence in their police has declined dramatically in recent years. In October 2024, in a YouGov survey, only 54 percent said the police were doing a good job. In October 2019, 72 percent still held this view. There are two important developments between these two values. One was the killing of George Floyd in 2020 and the subsequent mass movement Black Lives Matter. There were also numerous demonstrations against »institutional racism« within the police in Great Britain. Numerous police officers and politicians took the knee in a gesture of humility, among them the then Labour leader and current Prime Minister Keir Starmer.

The second development is an increasing mixing of socio-political agenda and actual legal mandate in the British police: for example, police officers carrying Pride flags or police vehicles that commemorate Black History Month. How much the British police now act not only as guardians of law and order, but also as guardians of conventions, but above all prove the Thousands of cases of so-called »non-criminal hate incidents«, which uniformed officers pursue year after year. The legal basis for these investigations states that an expression of hatred »from the perspective of the victim or any other person, motivated by hostility or prejudice« must be. So it is assumed from the beginning that there is a victim – based solely on a subjective perception.”

Having observed Britain’s police forces become increasingly politicised over the years and watched so many policing failures play out over the years I’m very much surprised that as many as 54% of Britons have confidence in the police. I expected to be lower than that but I suspect that those who are positive about how Britons are policed are those who are not paying much attention to what is going on in British society. When we look at scandals such as the policing of the Islamic Rape Gangs, the taking the knee by police officers for a fallen American Criminal, the differential manner in which Left/Islamic demonstrations are policed and how protests by indigenous Britons are policed and the increasing number of ‘hate speech’ arrests has, there’s damned good reason for the public’s approval figures for the police to be a whole lot lower than 54%.
