There’s a great comment by a psychologist called ‘Dr P XX’ on the X platform that explains not only the dangers of affirming the delusions of someone who is mentally ill but also why the trans movement has become so damned unpopular with the public. Now when I was doing alternative club nights I used to have about 10% of my punters who were transvestites, they were not pretending to be women but they just enjoyed dressing up and that was their kick.

Now being a bit of an old fashioned liberal with a ‘you do you’ attitude to what people do in the bedroom or a specialist club, the presence of these transvestites didn’t bother me and didn’t bother my female or my male punters in fact some of the male punters were tranny chasers so that was OK. These transvestites were broadly harmless in my view and because they left other punters alone and didn’t bother them the other punters left them alone. These transvestites did not push themselves and their proclivities where it wasn’t wanted. How these transvestites behaved both in my club and elsewhere from what I could gather was a world away from how the transgenders behave today. Today those who call themselves transgender have a ferocious sense of entitlement and get off on women being uncomfortable by the presence of transgenders in spots and sex segregated places and are manipulative beyond belief. Too many of the transgenders of today are narcissistic lunatics who pose a danger to women and children and are a world away from what I would call the ‘normal’ trannies that I encountered a few decades back.

Although I do not agree with everything that Dr P XX has said on the subject of trans I do agree that the rot set in when the psychiatric profession decided that affirming the delusions of those who believe that they are ‘born in the wrong body’ was the only way to proceed. Rather than trying to help those with this delusion come to terms with the reality of who they are and what their body is the psych profession affirmed the delusions of those men and women who did not believe in their own biological reality. Now unlike some I’m not opposed to gender transition for those for whom no other treatment for their problems has worked and for whom transition is the only way out of their mental health predicament. But the number of those individuals is tiny and affirmation of those who are not part of that cohort damages them and harms their recovery from mental illness. What makes up the bulk of the trans community now are not those, as in the past, who are at the end of the non affirmative treatment line but instead are a cohort of extremely damaged and sometimes dangerous and manipulative people. What’s worse is some of those who today claim to be ‘trans’ are woefully heedless about the effects that taking their fetish outside of the private or club environment on the wider society.

The key point for me in Dr P XX’s comment is that the trans movement pushed too far. There was in the late 90’s a fair amount of sympathy for genuine transsexuals among the general public from what I picked up from talking and listening around and the transvestites were often just seen as oddballs. Dr P XX is also correct about the danger of affirming delusions. If I for example had a freak out and convinced myself that it was September 3^rd 1939 then no respectable or competent psychiatrist would go along with that or pander to that misplaced belief. It would do me no favours at all to let me believe that it was in reality September 3^rd 1939 and giving me a gas mask, a ration card and a pretend set of call up papers, would not help my disconnection with reality. Maybe many of those who currently present as trans might be better off having their delusions challenged or at least not affirmed? It’s possible that many people with severe mental health problems might find better outcomes by gently telling them the truth about their bodies and getting them to accept that truth, rather than helping them live a lie?
