Quote of the Day 26/01/2021 – Councils pouring money down the drain.

The British people are struggling.  They are struggling with not having schools open, with the social and economic destruction wrought by lockdown policies that appear to not have worked and by the fact that the State, whether local or national, takes our money and wastes it hand over fist.  In particular Britons are struggling to pay their council tax.

The commentator Old Holborn is bang on with his Tweet here.

Yes indeed.  Maybe if the local councils were not wasting so much money on worthless guff like this then maybe we could either pay less tax or get the real and needed services that council tax is supposed to pay for?

  1. Consider also, how much the Plods are spending on “inclusivity”, race monitoring and “equality” crap to the exclusion of actually doing any proper policing by consents as opposed to acting like clodhopping mafiosi and censorious STASI. Just like the Cuncils (O deliberately omitted), the NHS National Eugenics Service, who then bleat about “cuts” and “budgetary pressures”; bloated self perpetuating state monstrosities funded by taxes extracted with menaces.

Sheikh Anvakh, I could not agree more, I think these clowns of psycoville
are “taking the piss” at our expense !!!! Sultan Siddi Nasrani

  2. Siddi: At least with Cuncil Tax, it’s equal opportunities piss-taking, shafting us all while driving a wedge between us and pretending that it’s “healing rifts”. When I was on Harrow Council, my favourite duty was presiding over the citizenship ceremonies, welcoming all as “fellow Brits”. The slogan I came up with was adopted officially and was very popular, “Our Harrow – Our Community” giving a sense of belonging to all.. Naturally Labour tried to piss all over it, but failed when Harrow Mosque, the Hindu Temples, Synagogues and Churches displayed it. All this “diversity and inclusivity” crap achieves is to highlight differences rather than our common aims. I’d sack the bloody lot of them and save easily a million quid in salaries, what as once happened, we got along fine, without these useless functionaries.

  3. And yet the Councils plead “Poverty” at every opportunity. The rot can be dated to Mr Heath “Professionalising” the Town Halls and their staff. A whiff of Taxpayers largess and they thought they were “Titans of Industry” or “Gordon Gecko”. There was a time when Councils spent as little as possible and “ways and means” committees were a common feature. There is a simple, thrifty cure. Three lists, 1) What Must be legally provided, 2) Luxuries under the heading Would be Nice and list 3) everything for the Chop (Which had better be e very big list). If you want “translation services” because you are too rude/idle/ignorant to learn English, YOU pay for it yourself. To quote Ronald Reagan “A publicly funded programme is the nearest thing to Eternal Life on this Earth”.

  4. Michael: I got infinitely worse when Saint Tony of Blair introduced “Cabinet Councils” abolishing the committee system and with it those “ways and means committees”, opening the coffers to the snouts in the trough, the boards of bought and paid for vote-fodder parasites and all of the “gimmes” of a shades with their hands out for “grants”. Then of course the new committees with their paid “chairpersons”. It was out with the Town Clerk and Clerk if Works and in with the massive salaries to the generally incompetent “cabinet portfolio holders”, even more for the leader and topping the heap, the bloated salaries for the new title of “Chief Exec”, layers of “directors”, deputy directors, middle managers with the scraps going to the front line staff who did the work, but for which there was never any money. Nearly 90% of Council and School budget is for salaries, we get the scraps. If I stand again, it will be with David Kurten’s Heritage Party. Should roundly piss off my old Party colleagues who were horrified when I won my very marginal seat by 6 votes and 4 recounts. I’ve a good mind to stand just to piss them off again, but mainly to remind them that being on Council is to SERVE residents, not fleece them and push them around, of course assuming that the Covid Chinky Plague doesn’t stop elections for the foreseeable future.

  5. The volume of fraudsters and misguided fools on absurd salaries doing nothing is a massive problem. I would indeed sack virtually everyone in local gov and the civil service. Schedule the bins and say as little as possible. Otherwise, fund your own largesse you scammers.
